(Oct. 27, 2009) – Before competing in the penultimate event on the 2009 NHRA schedule, 23-time NHRA winner Antron Brown and his Matco Tools dragster will visit College of Southern Nevada. The former college track star turned Top Fuel driver will visit with CSN students on October 28. “I really enjoy these TechEd visits we do for Matco (Tools),” Brown said. “I was just like many of these students not too long ago when I was a student at Mercer (Community) College in New Jersey. It’s nice to give back and speak to the kids about career paths and the importance of focusing on education. These kids at the Votech schools are the technicians of tomorrow and it’s great to have the chance to meet them and hopefully deliver the right message.” The CSN visit is the sixth of seven technical school visits for Brown and the Matco Tools dragster this season as part of the Matco Tools Racing TechEd program. Brown, a five-time winner this season, has also visited Western Technical College in El Paso, Texas; Linn State Technical College in Linn, Mo.; OSU Okmulgee in Okmulgee, Okla.; Ohio Technical College in Cleveland; and Texas State Technical College in Waco, Texas. Brown will appear at CSN from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. before he competes at the Ninth annual Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Brown will visit with four groups of students who also will have the opportunity to get an up-close look at the 8,000 horsepower Matco Tools Top Fuel dragster that Brown recently raced to the NHRA national speed record (319.60 mph). Matco Tools pit crew members Wayne Waite and Caleb Williams will also be on hand to speak to the CSN students. This season, Brown has five wins in nine final round appearances, along with seven poles. In July, Brown made NHRA history becoming just the seventh professional driver to sweep the grueling Western Swing (Denver, Seattle and Sonoma, Calif.). Brown also posted the fastest run in NHRA 1,000-foot racing at 319.75. He has set the NHRA national speed record twice at 319.22 and 319.60 mph. He led the standings entering the Countdown to 1 and after 13 races this season. He trails Tony Schumacher by 81 points or four rounds of racing and ranks fourth in the Countdown to 1 standings, his lowest placing of the season.
