(Oct. 20, 2009) – Antron Brown, a 23-time NHRA winner who currently ranks fourth in the NHRA Countdown to 1 standings, will be the “Newsmaker of the Week” on The Race Reporters internet radio show. Brown will appear on the popular internet talk show at 7 p.m. (ET) on Wednesday, Oct. 21. Brown has driven his Mike Ashley-owned Matco Tools dragster to five wins in nine final round appearances, along with seven poles this season. In July, Brown made NHRA history becoming just the seventh professional driver to sweep the grueling Western Swing (Denver, Seattle and Sonoma, Calif.). The former college track star also posted the fastest run at 1,000-foot racing at 319.75 mph. He has set the NHRA national speed record twice at 319.22 and 319.60 mph. Brown led the standings entering the Countdown to 1 and after 13 races this season. He trails Tony Schumacher by 81 points or four rounds of racing and ranks fourth in the Countdown to 1 standings with two races remaining on the 2009 NHRA schedule. “This is a great opportunity to talk about our sport and the Countdown (to 1) to a great panel of motor sports journalists,” Brown said. “Bobby (Bennett) does so much for our sport already and it’s always great to promote our sport of NHRA drag racing and the final two races of the season at Las Vegas and Pomona (Calif.).” The Race Reporters is hosted by Michael Knight, who will be joined on the journalists’ roundtable by Bobby Bennett of CompetitionPlus.com, Corinne Economaki of National Speed Sport News, and Larry Henry host of Pit Pass USA on the Power Up Channel. The Race Reporters airs live at www.PowerUpChannel.com and is re-aired several times later in the week. Brown will next compete at the ninth annual Las Vegas NHRA Nationals, Oct. 29-Nov. 1, at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It is the penultimate event on the 2009 NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series schedule.
